Death. Reunion with where ever it is we came from.
I hear you on the importance of story in the real world day to day of our lives. But, imho, all stories are just symbols, and what we're really looking for is in the real world, beyond all symbols.
The word "apple" has it's practical usefulness. But when we're hungry we don't want the word "apple", we want an apple we can eat.
What’s our desired destination?

One of my favorite bits of midrash: Right before G*d hands over the Torah to the Jewish people, He asks for collateral.
"We will be the collateral," the people say.
"Not good enough," says G*d.
"Well, then our ancestors will serve as collateral!" the people say.
"Still not good enough," says G*d.
"Okay, then how about our children? Our children shall be our collateral!"
"Yes," G*d replies. "That'll do."
The covenant is inter-generational. This G*d is playing the (very) long game.
